1. Bonnie Wenk Park

Bonnie Wenk Park boasts a large trail and a frequently used dog park that dog lovers can go to at any time and be confident their dog will have a friend to play with.  This park is well lit and offers separate play areas for small dogs and large dogs, as well as a doggie splash pad. Once you’re done playing, you can walk your pup on the adjacent walking and biking trails.  Or, you can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the peaceful setting as you relax alongside the pond.

2. Oak Point Park

Oak Point Park located in Plano is one of the largest parks in the North Dallas Area with over 800 acres of land.  If you are a nature lover, this park is for you! At Oak Point, you can walk along the scenic paved trails or take the dirt trails through the woods.  There are also spots for fishing located along the pond at the park as well as a nature center/retreat center.

3. Celebration Park

Located in Allen, Celebration Park has one of the largest playgrounds locally with a 1.5-mile trail, duck ponds, public restrooms, soccer fields, and more.  In the evenings and on the weekend, you will find this park booming with activity. This is a great park for families to enjoy.

4. Allen Station Park

Some of Allen Station Park’s amenities include baseball and softball fields, a playground, trails, washer courts, hydrous water park, a concrete skate park, BMX track, roller hockey rinks. You can also explore Allen’s 1874 stone dam and railroad water station which are located just north of Exchange in Allen Station Park. This is a one of a kind park!

5. Bethany Lakes Park

Bethany Lakes Park is a 40-acre community park developed in 1991 with 14 picnic sites, 4 well-stocked ponds, a fishing pier, hike and bike trails, and more! This park is located on the corner of Bethany Dr and Allen Heights.

Towne Lake Park spans over 108 acres and is located adjacent to McKinney High School. Some of it’s best features include: 2 picnic shelters with electrical outlets, 2 sand volleyball courts, 9 horseshoe pitching courts, 2 playgrounds, fishing pier, paddleboats and dock – Patty Young concession, 2 concession / restroom facilities, 22-acre lake with two fountains, a 1.2 mile lighted hike and bike trail, and… my personal favorite: an 18-hole disc golf course! Wow, that’s a lot for one park!

7. The Dallas Arboretum

Although this is not technically a park, nor in Collin County, it is a must for this list. If you are in Collin county, the Dallas Arboretum is about 45min-1hr away and it is definitely worth the drive. This is a beautiful oasis with a constantly changing atmosphere and a great place to relax, walk around, and soak in the flowers. The Arboretum also boasts some great educational opportunities for kids. With Spring upon us, it’s a great time to go check it out.

8. Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Located in Plano, Texas, this is one of the best nature preserves in the area with 3 distinct ecoregions: blackland prairie, riparian forest, and upland forest. It is roughly 200 acres full of hiking, biking, and walking trails. The calm and quite atmosphere are surprising considering the park’s location in the middle of town. A must see for sure.

9. Erwin Park

Love to mountain bike? Erwin Park has 7 miles of mountain biking trails. Found in the far north region of McKinney, Erwin Park is 212 acres full of camping, fishing, and picnic spots with a playground! Beautiful area.

10. Frisco Commons Park

Frisco Commons Park is a great area for kids and events. Within this park is a massive wood playground with 3 distinct play areas and a large splash pad area for the kids in the summer time. Stocked pond. Multiple pavilions for events, picnics, etc. In the back most part of the park is a plethora of nature trails great to bring your dogs. This is the premier family park in the Frisco.
