10 Fun Things to Do in McKinney, Texas

McKinney, Texas is a lovely place to live or visit. In my opinion, McKinney is one of the best places to live in Collin County. This suburb in the far North Metroplex has a vibrant and fun culture. McKinney’s slogan is “Unique By Nature” and that is certainly fitting for this gorgeous area.  Below I have compiled a list of 10 fun things to enjoy in McKinney

1. Visit Historic Downtown McKinney

Downtown McKinney has a fun and vibrant atmosphere with a unique array of shops and restaurants. Some of my favorite places to eat downtown are Square Burger and Mellow Mushroom Pizza. On the weekends, you can often find live music and carriage rides around the square.

2. Take your dog to Bonnie Wenk Dog Park

This expansive dog park offers play spaces for small and large dogs as well as a doggie splash pad! There are always plenty of pups for your pooch to socialize with at Bonnie Wenk. You can also enjoy the trails, scenery, and pond adjacent to the dog park.

3. Enjoy the Outdoors at Towne Lake Park

Take a stroll around the lake, watch the ducks, play sand volleyball, horseshoes, or disc golf, then feast on a barbecue picnic at Towne Lake Park. This large park has amenities for everyone to enjoy!

4. Visit the Heard Museum

Located just outside of McKinney in Fairview, Texas is the Heard Museum. You can find nature hikes, educational classes, and more at this wildlife museum.

5. Buy fresh produce at the McKinney Farmer’s Market

The McKinney Farmer’s Market is held at Chestnut Square in historic McKinney on Saturday’s from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and at Adriatica Village on Thursday’s from 3:00 pm- 6:00 pm. The Farmer’s Market opens in April.

6. Soak in the Sights at Adriatica Village

Adriatica Village is a Mediterranean-style oasis in the McKinney suburbs. You’ll feel like you’re in a European seaside village as you walk along the cobblestone streets, then sit back and enjoy a meal overlooking the lake.

7. Third Monday Trade Days of McKinney

Trade Days of McKinney runs Friday-Sunday before the third Monday of each month. Walk around and snack on carnival style food, then shop for antique goodies, homemade crafts, and more.

8. Take a Tour of Tupps Brewery at the Cotton Mill

On Saturday’s at 12:30 pm Tupps Brewery offers free tours. You can stay awhile and listen to live music, while munching on food truck goodies.

9. Have a bite at Emporium Pies in Downtown McKinney

Whether you’re looking for just a slice or an entire handcrafted pie, Emporium Pies in Downtown McKinney will not let you down. This beautiful shop offers mouth-watering pies and upscale coffee drinks. Be sure to stop in as the seasons change because Emporium Pies changes out their offerings seasonally.

10. Play a round at one of McKinney’s many golf courses

If you’re a golfer, McKinney has plenty of courses for you to try. Stonebridge Ranch Country Club and Eldorado Country Club are just a couple of the courses to enjoy.
